"Taking it All "

Chapter 22

A quick glance at his watch proved that Heero was probably already in the building. Duo's dragging Trowa into the restroom gave a perfect opportunity for Heero to slip in without his knowledge. Knowing the Japanese man, he would head to the locker room first to change, then the break room to punch in. Knowing the building's layout, Trowa headed straight for the locker room. As expected, Heero was inside, changing.

Heero ceased his actions for a split second, allowing Trowa to know that he was aware of his presence. Trowa stared at his bare back as Heero threw his shirt into the small locker. Something was different about him. Trowa knew it the instant their eyes met in the shuttle station, but now he was overly aware of it. Silence drifted as Heero pulled is Preventer shirt from the locker.

"You want to tell me what's going on?" Heero hesitated a second before sliding his shirt over his head and closing the locker door. Trowa sounded serious, more serious than Heero had heard him in quiet some time.

"'Bout what?" He kept his back to his friend while sitting to pull on his shoes. He didn't feel ready to face him just yet. The events with Quatre in the elevator quickly ran through his mind, and he wondered if the Arab had gone back on his word. Somehow, he felt that the answer was 'no'. Even he had to admit that Quatre wasn't one to agree on something, then change his mind for his own benefits.

"What I did to you. . .why you're drinking again. . .why you're telling Duo about a woman that I don't even remember. . .pick any of them." Heero closed his eyes as he listened to Trowa step further into the room with each word. Why did he have to had told Duo anything? He should have known that the first chance the American got, he would talk to Trowa about it. It only made sense. Holding it in was only making Duo go crazy. Trowa had been a safe hold in a sense.

"It's nothing."

"Don't give me that bullshit. You can level with me Heero, you always have before."

"This isn't like before."

"Why's that?" Trowa sat next to his friend. The instant he did, Heero jumped to his feet, not wanting Trowa to know how much it was hurting him. How did Quatre do this to him? Why? "Can you at least tell me what I did wrong?"

"You've done nothing wrong."

"Then why can't I sit next to you?" Because it hurt. Being so close to him, and not being able to be honest. "Is it because I wasn't there for you while you were going through this? If so, I'm sorry. I didn't know, or else I would have. . .I'm here now."

"Do you trust me?"

"Yes."

"You know I would never hurt you."

"I know. . .what are you getting at?" Heero inhaled deeply, running the forthcoming conversation in his head. He had to make sure he chose his words carefully. Until he learned what Quatre had done, it would be wise to act as if the affair never happened. A slip up could cause him a miss chance of regaining what was stolen from him.

"I haven't been dating a woman the last few months Trowa. . .I've been seeing a man. I didn't say anything to you or Duo because I wasn't sure about what I was doing. I never told duo it was a woman; he just assumed it was when he say my back."

"So you are into rough sex now."

"No. It's just that the sex. . .God, it's incredible; like nothing I've ever had. Sometimes, he gets a little carried away, but it's no big deal." Trowa scoffed as he listened to this statement. "What?"

"Nothing. I just. . .nothing. So what happened?"

"Honestly, I don't know. He was just spirited away from me."

"What?"

"I don't want to go into it right now. We'll just say that someone from his past wouldn't let go, and for now, I can't be with him."

"Duo thinks you're in love with him."

"If this is what love feels like, then I am." Tears brimmed Heero's eyes and he bowed his head in an attempt to hide them. It didn't work. His last hair cut left his bangs somewhat shorter than normal, which he had temporarily forgotten to take into account. Trowa wasn't sure what to do or say. He had never seen Heero cry.

"Heero, I'm sorry. Is there anything that can be done?"

"I'm going to try everything I possibly can." He lifted his misty eyes and turned to face Trowa for the first time since their conversation started. Seeing the actual tears was harder to cope with than hearing them. "I'm sorry for the way I've treated you the past couple of days. I've been taking my anger out on you."

"You don't have to apologize. Knowing was enough." It hurt. Heero felt that he wanted to rip his heart straight from his chest. "Is there anything I can do for you?"

"Just be here; the way you always have." Trowa nodded, not completely understanding what, exactly, he was agreeing.
